It seems I'm having the same issues revealed in this thread. With a LOT of case cooling and a Hyper 212 evo I was getting temps in the mid-to-high 80s using motherboard default settings with Turbo Boost enabled. At one point, my system shut down completely during an OCCT test. I have an MSI z97 U3 Plus motherboard. Indeed, it was supplying too much wattage by default (120+ versus 88.)
Using the IXT settings Ken suggested, it is stable with temps peaking in the low 70s. However, I didn't pay premium for a chip that can only boost from 4 to 4.2 when the specs say 4.4. For those who requested RMA, did you go to your retailer or Intel? How much trouble did you have explaining the issue? How long did the exchange take? I ordered from Amazon and I'm not sure if it will be a painful process. Should I contact Intel tech support first?
